Welcome to the Feng Shui Room. A site dedicated to providing information to all who are seeking to find out what "traditional" or "classical" Feng Shui is all about.
What is Feng Shui?
Feng Shui literally translated means 'wind and water'. The term finds it’s origins in Guo Pu's (276 – 324ce) classic text titled “Zangshu” ('Burial Book'), where "Qi rides and scatters with the Wind (Feng); (and) gathers at the boundaries of Water (Shui).' To understand what this means, for those of us not fortunate enough to have been raised with this knowledge, is to understand a philosophy and way of life that has been developing and evolving for around 6000 years.
Feng Shui is part philosophy, part theology most of all a way of life. It’s purpose is to understand and optimise the relationship between man and energy, both internal and external. It is as much about self knowledge as it is about our environment. Feng Shui’s foundations are found in the concept of Qi (life’s breath), the Taiji (yin yang), the Five Processes, and the Eight Triagrams. These foundations provide the building blocks for advanced formulas using purpose built tools like the Loupan. The symbolism at the heart of this science is rich and continues to provide a means of communicating this science through the centuries and across social and cultural barriers.
Form School
The first and oldest form of Feng Shui; the form school utilize the practice of geographically locating the auspicious places were Qi converges.
"Compass" School
There is literally no such thing as a "compass school" of Feng Shui. The term ‘compass school’ is a western name for a legitimate Feng Shui school. “Liqi Pai”; or ‘Patterns of Qi School’ studies the effects of time and space. The primary tool of the trade is a Compass or "Loupan".
Flying Star
Flying Star Feng Shui like all traditional shools of Feng Shui utilizes a Compass, following the Imperial “Treatise on Harmonizing Times and Distinguishing Directions” (Qung Dynasty – Emperor Qianlong (r. 1736 – 1796ce).
The FengShuiRoom.com is focused on the Form School and the Flying Star school of Feng Shui and will provide in detail these practices and methods.
To understand the what, how, when and where (customary questions for the western ‘rational’ mind) takes knowledge, patience and experience. This site offers the knowledge component, should you wish to evaluate your own environment (home or work) we will offer the information and tools for you to do so. However we steadfastly recommend a ‘qualified’ Feng Shui practitioner to review your audit and plans to ensure it is positive, not negative energy that is encouraged within your home or work environment.
A word of warning
In your journey of understanding Feng Shui you may purchase books or seek other web sites addressing this Art and Science, and we encourage you to do so. Please be aware that since the introduction of Feng Shui to the West waves of over simplified and intuitive/superstitious ideas and definitions (‘new age’) have become associated with the name Feng Shui. Feng Shui is not a religion, it is not intuitive/superstitious (aka magical or mystic) and has nothing to do with crystals, yoga or mirrors.
